A popular Canadian restaurant chain has launched a petition for flats to finally get their time in the emoji spotlight.

Perhaps you, like us, thought it already existed alongside steak, sushi, fries, pizza, burgers and more, but St. Louis Bar & Grill noted that the only chicken wing emoji available is actually a drumstick — and, frankly, that doesn’t cut it.

“Give flats the recognition they deserve,” the change.org petition begins, calling the omission “one of the greatest oversights in emoji history” and throwing around words like “injustice” and “no respect” for the missing emoji.

Drums vs. flats

“Chicken wings aren’t just food. They’re part of game nights, celebrations, family dinners and late-night cravings,” the appeal points out.

“They’re one of North America’s most iconic comfort foods. Yet somehow, while tacos, pretzels, dumplings and fondue all have their own emojis, the humble chicken wing flat has been left behind,” the message continues.

“We believe it’s time to right this delicious wrong,” the petition notes, adding that a new emoji would “bring fairness” to the flats vs. drums rivalry.

Royal Nasager, vice-president of marketing and strategic partnerships at Aegis Inc., the company behind St. Louis Bar & Grill, said in a news release that they “feel a personal responsibility to advocate for the entire wing ecosystem,” adding that “the flat is being left behind.”

Food for thought

The campaign is targeting all wings lovers, but flats lovers should be particularly affected by St. Louis’ ultimate goal.

“If you’ve ever ordered ‘all flats,’ passionately defended Team Flats, or reluctantly sent the wrong wing emoji knowing it wasn’t quite right, this petition is for you,” the appeal declared.

“Justice for flats!”
