A U.S. Secret Service agent, Marquez Pinder, is facing five felony charges after being accused of involvement in a hazing incident involving two Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity members. On April 2nd, the Miami Field Office announced that Pinder, a Secret Service employee since September 2023, is on administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.
A Miami-based fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi, is described as a "historically African-American fraternity" on its official website, which mentions that the fraternity was established in 1911.
The incident is not affiliated with the University of Miami or its undergraduate chapter, according to Megan Afkham, the assistant vice president of university communications, in an email response to Fox News Digital.
According to a statement from Jimmy McMikle, president of the national Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, the organization has “zero tolerance” for hazing.
The Miami-Dade County police have arrested four individuals, including Pinder, for alleged involvement in hazing incidents involving two members of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. Kimberly McClain, a spokesperson for the U.S Secret Service, confirmed the arrest and administrative leave in a statement.
The incidents occurred during a fraternity initiation ritual. The Miami-Dade County police have charged Marquez Pinder, a Secret Service agent, with five felony counts, including two instances of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and two counts of attempted manslaughter with a deadly weapon, and one count of hazing with a deadly weapon.
