The Federal Aviation Administration issued a nationwide ground stop for all American Airlines flights on Tuesday evening due to an IT issue.
The airline confirmed that the outage briefly disrupted connectivity across some of its internal systems. American Airlines placed a temporary ground stop while its teams worked to resolve the problem.
Systems are now coming back online, and flights are resuming departures across the country. American Airlines issued an apology to customers for the inconvenience caused by the disruption.

IT outages have affected major U.S. airlines on multiple occasions in recent years. A similar technology issue last year prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to ground United Airlines flights at several airports nationwide.
The airline emphasized that safety remains its top priority and that it is working to minimize delays for affected passengers. Crews and ground staff continue to address remaining system disruptions to restore full operations.
