Eren Kaşıkç, a 37‑year‑old culinary entrepreneur, was discovered deceased in his Istanbul apartment on July 29.
The former winner of the 2021 Turkish edition of MasterChef had opened a sandwich and burger restaurant, Kızıl Sakal, following his victory and was preparing to launch a second location in Pendik’s Kurtköy district.
Family members had reported his absence the day before and requested that a business partner check on him, leading to the discovery of his body in his bedroom.
Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, prompting an official investigation and the scheduling of an autopsy.
Early assessments suggest a strong possibility that a heart attack caused his sudden death.
His funeral is scheduled for July 31, with burial in Tokat province where his family resides.
Tributes from former judges highlighted his compassionate nature and lasting influence, with remarks such as “My dear brother, you always said ‘God exists, there is no sorrow,’ and your heart never caused pain to anyone.”
Another judge reflected on his smile, sincerity, and the indelible mark he left on people’s hearts, expressing deep condolences.
Kaşıkç began formal culinary training in 2012, worked in Istanbul hotel kitchens, and later served as head chef at a resort on Gökçeada island before gaining national recognition through the cooking competition.
He is survived by his wife and one daughter.
