The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has opened a new accreditation process for motorcycle‑taxi platforms as it reviews the allocation of rider caps.
Board Chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II said the initiative seeks to maintain an orderly public transport system while accommodating the growing demand for motorized ride‑sharing services.
The overall rider cap remains fixed at 45,000, distributed among three operators: Angkas with 23,164 riders, Joyride with 15,000, and Move It with 6,836.
In a separate action, the board has started to consider petitions for fare adjustments submitted by groups representing jeepneys, buses, UV Express vehicles, taxis and motorcycle taxis.
The petitions arise in response to recent increases in fuel prices, prompting transport operators to seek higher fares to offset rising operating costs.
The board indicated that deliberations will weigh the impact on commuters against the financial pressures faced by drivers and fleet owners.
