Senator Ben Sasse Updates on Pancreatic Cancer Progress

Former Nebraska senator Ben Sasse, who is undergoing treatment for stage 4 pancreatic cancer, expressed personal optimism while warning that the United States faces its greatest challenges ahead.

Sasse described pancreatic cancer as an aggressive disease and recalled a prayer he heard from Pastor Tim Keller. He disclosed that his diagnosis in December 2025 revealed metastasis to the liver and lungs, and doctors initially estimated a three‑to‑four‑month life expectancy.

He entered a clinical trial for daraxonrasib, an oral therapy designed to block a defective gene that drives uncontrolled cell growth. After six and a half months on the drug, his tumors have shrunk by more than 80 %, extending his projected survival to roughly seven months.

Beyond his own health, Sasse emphasized the need for the United States to outpace China, revamp a struggling education system, and adapt to an economy increasingly driven by artificial intelligence.

He advocated for decentralized corporate structures and a global order led by the United States, grounded in free trade, rule of law, transparency, and respect for human rights, contrasting this vision with a model dominated by the Chinese Communist Party.

Speaking at the Western Conservative Summit on the campus of Colorado Christian University, Sasse criticized the current state of K‑12 education, citing a national assessment that shows roughly one in three eighth‑graders cannot read at a basic level and nearly 40 % fall below basic proficiency in math.

He argued that despite increased government spending, academic benchmarks remain low and the education system fails to tap the full potential of students.

Sasse warned that artificial intelligence will “externalize” intelligence, reshaping curricula and the workforce, and described an imminent technological revolution that will disrupt work, education, and global power dynamics.

He concluded that future generations are likely to remember this period more for its technological transformation than for its political debates.
