Baguio City is poised for a dramatic shift in its transportation landscape. A landmark agreement has been finalized, paving the way for the construction of a modern, integrated transport terminal – a project valued at over a billion pesos.
The project, spearheaded by a leading engineering and infrastructure firm, follows a formal notice of award received last year. It encompasses not only the construction of the terminal itself, but also the development of accompanying commercial spaces, promising a revitalized hub for travelers and locals alike.
This ambitious undertaking arose from an unsolicited proposal, gaining momentum when no other companies stepped forward to challenge the initial plan. This unique circumstance underscores the confidence placed in the proposed design and its potential to address a critical need within the city.
The Baguio City Integrated Terminal is designed to accommodate a substantial flow of passengers – up to 25,000 daily. Initial routes will connect the city to key destinations across Luzon, including La Union, Metro Manila, and provinces as far south as Cavite, utilizing a planned integrated exchange.
Located on a sprawling five-hectare property in Barangay Dontogan, just outside the city center, the terminal represents a strategic move to alleviate the persistent traffic congestion plaguing Baguio’s core. Provincial buses and UV Express vans will be relocated, freeing up valuable space and easing the flow of vehicles.
The agreement stipulates a lease term carefully aligned with the project’s lifespan, ensuring long-term sustainability and responsible development. The duration is capped at 40 years from the start of construction or the expiration of any existing land-use agreements.
The announcement of the finalized lease agreement coincided with a positive market response, with the company’s shares experiencing a notable increase in value. This reflects investor confidence in the project’s potential and the company’s ability to deliver on its commitments.
